The Library is located on Level 3 on both Melbourne and Sydney campuses.
Your library account is automatically created when you enroll at MIT. Your student ID card is also your library card
All MIT students and staff can take up to 7 items at a time
Finding your textbook is easy if you know your unit code. Simply enter the unit code for the textbook you need into the library search available on the MIT Library Discovery https://mitaus.on.worldcat.org/discovery
MIT Library recommends you purchase your prescribed textbooks from the Co-op Bookshop. Where possible, prescribed texts for units offered at MIT are listed on the Co-op website. Visit the website www.coop.com.au and select ‘Uni Textbook Lists’ for more details. Purchases can be made in store or online. Always confirm the details of your prescribed text using your unit description (available on Moodle) prior to purchase
When you have located the item(s) you wish to borrow, take them to the Library's self-service kiosk. Select ‘borrow’ and then scan your MIT ID card. Place your books on the shelf and wait for all of the book names to appear on the screen with a green tick mark. Now select finish and you’re done! Remember to take your receipt as this will have the due date for your items on it.
All main collection items, as well as DVDs have a loan period of 7 days
You can renew using the Library's self-service kiosk or by logging into your library account. You can renew as long as no one else has placed a reservation on the item you have out on loan, and you have no other blocks on your library account
Accessing My Library Account allows you to check when your current loans are due, renew items, view loan history, monitor outstanding fines and keep track of your reservations. To log in to your account, click on Sign into your Library Account on the MIT Library webpage. Please note: the first time you log in your need to set your password.
If every copy of a particular title is out on loan, you can place a hold on the next available copy via your Library account, accessible through the Library page on the MIT website. You will be notified via email when your reservation is available for collection and you have 3 days to pick it up from the Library Service Desk.
There is a returns chute located outside the Library.
No, the only time you will be charged is if you do not return or renew your loans on time. Overdue items incur a penalty of $1 per item, per day. If you have an outstanding charge on your account of $10 or above, you will not be able to renew or borrow until the fine is paid in full at the Library Service Desk. Fines increase to $5 per item, per day, during the exam period. At the end of each trimester, students with outstanding charges will have their IT accounts blocked until the fine is paid in full.
The MIT Library holds a variety of popular non-fiction, DVDs, some literature and fiction, and a variety of magazines all available for 7 day loans. All staff and students also have access to a number of online resources available from the library discovery page
Databases are resources that allow you to search for published information, predominantly journal articles. MIT Library subscribes to a range of academic databases which you can access simply by clicking on ‘Resource List’ which is listed under ‘Quick links’ on the MIT Library webpage.
The library visits MIT101 and MLC101 at the beginning of each trimester to provide information about using the library, you can also visit the library where we have brochures, or speak directly to the friendly library staff..
