Google Pinpoint

With Google Pinpoint, you can analyze large collections of documents using the best of Google search technology, assisted with AI.

  • It has traditionally been used by journalists when they need to find, verify and write news stories. Journalists have used it to analyse large collections of documents, for investigations into issues, and then published articles on issues that they discovered.
  • Google has a range of tools available for journalists, of which Google Pinpoint is only one.
  • You need to sign up to get access. While it was iniitaly meant for journalists, there are options for academics to sign up and use it as well, as it is equally useful for research
  • You can upload documents to pinpoint
  • Use a knowledge graph to make sense of your documents
  • It has complex filters for searching and retrieving items form your collection based on keywords



 

  • It has sophisticated search functionality, including fuzzy searches
  • It can transcribe audio files to text in eight languages
  • You can identify data in documents, and then Google Pinpoint can extract that data from similar documents and put it into a spreadsheet for you
  • You can also search other publically shared collections of data



 

  • A pinpoint collection can contain 200,000 documents, including text, audio or images
  • Pinpoint can use OCR and speech to text technology to search through the documents
