1 - Log into your google account, on Google Chrome
Note: if you are using an MIT computer, make sure your own Gmail/google account is logged in and not a work one. Google Chrome is good for this.
2 - Open up Google in your browser
run a search on “how to set up a google scholar author profile”
Or click this link Go to Google Scholar Profiles
3 – select “set up your google scholar profile” – the blue link at the bottom
You will then need to set up your author profile account, which will help you track citations.
Fill in your details – make sure to include your name as it appears on the articles you have written (so include middle initial if you used it).
Google will do a fuzzy search on your name anyway, but its quicker if you get a direct match.
4 - Hit the next button – Google will show groups of articles already in the Google system.
If it gets a direct match, and it has grouped your articles together, then you can easily select that collection of articles and add it to your name.
If not, you will need to browse
5 - If your articles aren’t on the first page, go down to the bottom of the page and click the next arrow to see more articles, until you find your ones.
6 - If you can’ see your articles in groups, you will then have to check the individual articles.
If you have a common name, this can take a while!
7 - When you find your article tick the box next to it
8 - Once its selected you will see it is greyed out, as it is already added to your profile.
9 - Go up to the top of the page and click the blue arrow, it will show you how many are in your profile.
10. You will have a few options – make sure you select “make my profile public”
11 - Select done - The articles will then be in your profile.
12 - For verification, you may get one (or multiple) emails asking you to verify your account – this verification may be to your work account. Make sure you select to verify these, otherwise it won’t save your account, connect the articles to it, or make it public.
Once your Account is set up, you’ll be able to see your Author profile, and the connected articles.
If you have selected to have your profile publicly visible, your name will appear as underlined when your article appears in Google Scholar.
