1. Research
Research is conducted, data gathered. A librarian or colleague may assist with the research.

2.Writing
Research is written up, with publishing format in mind. Write up will differ depending on format, and different journals will require differning formats in regards to length, referencing style, grammar, what is included etc.

3. Publishing - Journal choice
What is the format of the publishing? Will it be published in a conference paper? Book chapter? Journal? If its a journal, what journal will be selected? A librarian may assist here with journal selection.

4. Submission
The work is finally complete, ready, and submitted to the item.

5. Peer Review
The method of peer review is conducted. This will be depended on the journal, but would normally be a body of academics active in the discipline, who have experience and are aware of the journal relevant criteria. They may refuse send the item back with issues to be addressed, or they may refuse the item.

6. Revision after peer review
The item will be need to be updated based on feedback from the peer review process.

7.Acceptance and Publication
The item is accepted for publication, following updates made on the basis of feedback from peer review.

8.Citation and Metrics
Citation and Metrics are gathered, using various metrics systems
